Judge Abram I Dedrick headstoneJudge Abram I Dedrick was elected as “first judge” (equivalent to Chief Judge) of the Allegan County Court in March 1851.  The county court would be dissolved after his term of office, not to be resurrected again for over a century.

Judge Dedrick was born 13 Jan 1807 in New York and died 28 Oct 1851, just 7 months after his election to the bench, in Gun Plain, Allegan County, Michigan.[1]  He had lived in Plainfield, Allegan County in the 1830s and early 1840s, settling in the County sometime between 1828 and 1830.[2]
